You loved your results at first, but now something’s changed. Maybe it’s physical. Perhaps it’s personal. Either way, if you are thinking about breast implant revision consider discussing your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon.
At our Torrance, CA, practice, Dr. David Bray, Jr. may offer breast implant revision for women who are concerned with their current breast implants. As a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Bray, Jr. brings extensive training and experience to each procedure. Below, we discuss three common reasons women have this type of surgery.
1. Implant Complications
A common reason for revision is implant complications. The most common examples are implant rupture or capsular contracture.
Saline implant ruptures are often noticeable immediately as the body absorbs the fluid, resulting in a visible loss of volume. Silicone ruptures may be less obvious, but they can still affect breast shape and feel.
Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue surrounding the implant hardens, resulting in tightness, discomfort, or visible distortion. Dr. Bray Jr. is experienced in treating both types of complications.
2. Implant Malposition
Over time, implants can shift out of position, causing noticeable asymmetry. They may sit too high, too low, or shift to the sides or middle of the chest.
Many factors can contribute to implant malposition, such as weight changes, aging, and capsular contracture.
Depending on the cause of implant malposition, Dr. Bray Jr. will develop a plan with you to attempt to reposition the implants to improve symmetry.
3. Desire to Change Size
Sometimes, the implants are intact and well-positioned, but your preferences have changed. You might want smaller implants for a more natural look or larger ones to match your current aesthetic.
In addition, your breast tissue volume may have increased over the years and you may desire a reduction in implant size to get back to your preferred size.
Dr. Bray, Jr. helps guide you through your options so that you feel comfortable with the size of your new implants.
